Today’s small light
You do not have to wait for a big change to welcome something beautiful today.
A warm coffee, a kind word or light coming through a window: small moments do not ask for a perfect life, only a little attention. Gratitude does not erase sadness. It can sit beside it, like a small light sufficient for the next step. Give yourself permission to notice something good today, without having to make the whole day extraordinary.

The Night That Changed My View of Life and Death
From the chapter · Renato Rossi
It was happiness without conditions. A profound peace in which there was no fear, pain, or worry. Never before had I felt anything like it. And never since have I been able to fully recover that feeling. Finally, I sensed that I was returning very gently to my body. As though a light feather were slowly descending and returning to its place. Then I awoke. I was crying. Not from sadness. I cried because the experience had felt so intense and so real.
Part of me did not want to lose that feeling of peace. Another part understood that I had returned to ordinary life, with all the worries waiting for me there. Was it a dream? An experience between sleep and wakefulness? Was it my consciousness creating another reality under the pressure of that difficult period? Or had I briefly touched something we cannot yet fully understand?
Connection and comparison
The chapter describes a night-time experience after the crisis of 1981, including peace, feeling outside the body and eventually waking. The out-of-body and NDE pages allow comparison without turning this account into a medically established resuscitation.
Everything we do sets something in motion. Sometimes we see the consequence immediately. Sometimes only years later. And very often, we will never fully know how far the influence of a word or action extended. Over the years, I came to call this the law of cause and effect. Not as a simple system of calculation in which every good person automatically receives happiness and every bad person is immediately punished.
Life does not work that way. I have seen good people suffer. I have seen honest companies disappear. I have lived through situations in which commitment and love were not enough to prevent a loss. No human being is personally to blame for every sorrow that befalls them. A victim must never be held responsible for the injustice another person inflicted. To me, cause and effect means something else. It means we are responsible for what we ourselves bring into the world.
Connection and comparison
Words and actions have consequences, but suffering does not make someone guilty. Love, forgiveness and boundaries connect this chapter with the small gestures of A moment of light.
As I reach the final page, my thoughts return to the people with whom this story began. My parents, who left their familiar world behind. Dorina, with whom I have shared a life. Marco and Michael, who gave me the privilege of being a father. My grandchildren, my family and the friends who stayed beside me along the way.
Connection and comparison
The ending returns to loved ones and what Renato hopes to pass on. The love and loss page and A moment of light carry that attention into everyday life.
