Love, loss and forgiveness

What we carry, what we share and how we can be there for one another.

Love remains part of life

Love for Marco runs through many chapters of Renato’s book. His parents, Dorina, Michael and the grandchildren also have their own places. The ending, “What remains is love”, brings the search back to the people who supported his life.

My experiences with this theme

Passages from my book, in my own words. Each excerpt is followed by a comparison with the theme of this page.

My life - Between heaven and earth

From the chapter · Renato Rossi

Until now, I have mainly described the people, places and events that shaped my life. In this part, I give more room to my inner world: wonder, unusual experiences and the search for meaning.

The father who misses Marco, the entrepreneur who kept looking for possibilities and the child who asked questions are the same person. My spirituality grew in the midst of that everyday life.

Connection and comparison

The opening brings wonder, love and everyday life together. The topic pages offer ways to follow that thread further.

What moves me within

From the chapter · Renato Rossi

I carry the absence of Marco with me. Our bond lives on in memories, in the ideas we shared and in my love for him. When I look for meaning in what I experience, that love is also part of my search.

For me, this inner search also takes shape in everyday gestures: listening to someone, taking responsibility for my actions, trying to forgive. My questions about the invisible bring me back to the people around me and the attention I can give them.

Connection and comparison

Memories of Marco and the wish to listen lead back to caring for the people nearby. Love and attention to body and mind connect with that movement.

My Search for the Invisible

From the chapter · Renato Rossi

My interest in the invisible began long before Marco’s death. As a child, I knew the experiences I described earlier: the sensation of being outside my body, without fear. With the years came questions. What is consciousness? What do our dreams mean? How do we understand something we experience intensely but cannot explain?

[…]

Gradually, spirituality took on a very practical meaning for me. It needed to bring me closer to life and to other people. What is the point of speaking about the invisible if I do not truly see the person in front of me? My search gained value when it helped me listen, judge less quickly and love more attentively.

Connection and comparison

The search began before Marco’s death and later found meaning in love, memory and attention. Out-of-body experiences, intuition and living with loss each offer a way to explore it.

The Thousands of Conversations

From the chapter · Renato Rossi

Another person told me about numbers that kept recurring in their life. Another still was trying to find meaning in an event they could not explain. Over the years, I performed a numerological calculation or analysis for hundreds of people. I never asked for any payment. Not once. I did it because I wanted to help people reflect on their lives. The numbers were often only the beginning. They opened a door.

But behind that door always stood a human being. A human being with questions. With sorrow. With hope.

Connection and comparison

In the conversations, numbers and unexpected encounters open a door, but a person stands behind it. Explore numerology, meaningful coincidences and, above all, listening without judgement.

The Law of Cause and Effect

From the chapter · Renato Rossi

Everything we do sets something in motion. Sometimes we see the consequence immediately. Sometimes only years later. And very often, we will never fully know how far the influence of a word or action extended. Over the years, I came to call this the law of cause and effect. Not as a simple system of calculation in which every good person automatically receives happiness and every bad person is immediately punished.

Life does not work that way. I have seen good people suffer. I have seen honest companies disappear. I have lived through situations in which commitment and love were not enough to prevent a loss. No human being is personally to blame for every sorrow that befalls them. A victim must never be held responsible for the injustice another person inflicted. To me, cause and effect means something else. It means we are responsible for what we ourselves bring into the world.

Connection and comparison

Words and actions have consequences, but suffering does not make someone guilty. Love, forgiveness and boundaries connect this chapter with the small gestures of A moment of light.

What remains is love

From the chapter · Renato Rossi

As I reach the final page, my thoughts return to the people with whom this story began. My parents, who left their familiar world behind. Dorina, with whom I have shared a life. Marco and Michael, who gave me the privilege of being a father. My grandchildren, my family and the friends who stayed beside me along the way.

Connection and comparison

The ending returns to loved ones and what Renato hopes to pass on. The love and loss page and A moment of light carry that attention into everyday life.

People carry grief differently

In “The Thousands of Conversations”, Renato describes his need to talk and share memories, and the difference from Dorina’s way of grieving. He does not attribute motives she has not expressed. Their difference shows why listening may help more than judging how someone should grieve.

Grief has no single correct emotional response or timetable. People may find support in conversation, memories, a personal ritual or professional help. A spiritual interpretation may matter personally; no one has to adopt it to feel connected.

The value of listening

Renato describes conversations where numbers merely opened a door and a person stood behind it. Attention sometimes means asking, rather than immediately offering solutions: would you like me to listen, or explore this with you? Someone may also need silence.

Responsibility and boundaries

In “The Law of Cause and Effect”, responsibility concerns our own actions, rather than blaming people who suffer. Renato also writes that forgiveness does not mean giving someone the same power over us again. Boundaries, distance and support can accompany a wish not to pass pain on.

One small gesture

A call, a shared memory or a sincere apology can be a small beginning. Choose what fits and respect the other person’s space. Forgiveness is not a duty that can be imposed on someone who has been hurt.
