Books, life’s questions and a controversial spiritual legacy.
What does it mean to live, die and remain connected with those we love? Jozef Rulof offered his own answers through mediumship. This page introduces his work, with books, videos and background for your own exploration.

Who was Jozef Rulof?
Jozef Rulof (1898–1952) was a Dutch spiritual writer, speaker and painter who presented himself as a medium. Born in ’s-Heerenberg, he later lived in The Hague. His work was published during his lifetime and after his death.
He believed his books and talks were produced with spiritual guides, including Alcar and Zelanus. This is a claim within his worldview, not an independently established fact. The present foundation manages his work and offers a substantial online archive.
His books combine accounts of an afterlife with reincarnation, spiritual development and his own cosmology. The word “scientific” in his society’s name does not make the teachings recognised science.
Historical background: Berghapedia. The account of mediumship on the foundation’s site represents the publisher’s interpretation.

A personal search
From the chapter · Renato Rossi
Yet my interest in the invisible did not begin with that loss. It was already there when, as a child, I had experiences I could not explain. Later came other events, dreams and perceptions that continued to occupy my thoughts. While daily life revolved around family and work, questions for which I could find no simple answer remained in the background.

In doing so, I want to keep distinguishing between what I remember and the meaning I give it myself. I cannot explain or prove everything that has moved me deeply. Readers are free to see things differently. I ask not for agreement, but for attention to a personal testimony.
Connection and comparison
The life story opens questions about consciousness, loss and meaning. Numerology and portraits of spiritual writers offer different perspectives, without assuming that Renato shares their beliefs.
Rulof’s work includes passages about skin colour, ethnic groups and Jews that have drawn serious criticism concerning racism and antisemitism. Explanations linking persecution and suffering to karmic guilt are also disputed. Stichting Skepsis has published extensively on this.
The current publisher emphasises equality of souls and says the teachings oppose racism and discrimination. This is the foundation’s response; it does not automatically resolve objections to the original passages.
Distribution led to court proceedings in Belgium. According to Unia’s account, the Dendermonde court ruled in 2007 that the publication and distribution examined did not breach the anti-racism and Holocaust-denial laws applied then. That ruling is neither scientific confirmation nor moral endorsement of the teachings.
This website upholds human equality. No one is presented as inferior because of origin or skin colour. Victims of persecution are not responsible for the injustice perpetrators inflicted on them.
Rulof describes spiritual worlds and encounters after death. These accounts express his spiritual vision; they do not prove what an afterlife looks like.
Reincarnation and responsibility
Past lives and cause and effect are important in his teachings. Distinguish reflecting on one’s actions from assigning blame to people who suffer.
Mediumship
His writing, speaking and painting are linked to alleged spiritual guidance. The foundation offers its own explanation.
His own cosmology
His accounts of life’s origins and development form a religious and esoteric worldview. They are not equivalent to findings in biology or astronomy.
Books to explore
The foundation presents its collection as 27 books, available free online and as e-books. Printed editions are sold through its shop. This selection distinguishes different kinds of work. Original Dutch titles are retained so that you can recognise the linked editions.
Een Blik in het Hiernamaals
A narrative of journeys through spiritual worlds, with André and Alcar as central figures.

Paintings and drawings
Besides books, Jozef Rulof left visual artwork. The foundation displays reproductions under the titles below. This gallery introduces seven works from its poster collection.
Rulof regarded his painting as mediumship: he believed deceased artists worked through him. The foundation connects the paintings with financing his books. This spiritual explanation belongs to his worldview, separate from your own response to the images.

The art album
The album Het Schilderend Mediumschap van Jozef Rulof brings together drawings, watercolours, paintings and painted plates. The publisher adds explanations of painting from Rulof’s spiritual perspective. Its website includes sample images and publication information.
On 4 July 2026, foundation chairman Ludo Vrebos gave four talks in Schipluiden. They are contemporary explanations from the foundation, not film recordings of Rulof himself. The buttons open YouTube.

The foundation offers eight audiobooks, including Een Blik in het Hiernamaals and the three volumes of Jeus van Moeder Crisje. The page contains an audio sample and information about the complete series. Audiobooks are books read aloud, distinct from historical recordings of public talks.
The series Lezingen contains transcripts from Rulof’s final years. The publisher says they were recorded with a wire recorder. Distinguish original talks, book texts and later explanations.

Questions to consider
Which thoughts comfort you? Which claims call for evidence? Where does an explanation conflict with another person’s dignity? You do not have to accept everything in a spiritual tradition to explore it carefully.
